Sometimes many of us feel proud about their name. I’m not sure whether I feel proud about it or not, but I see my name having some connection with Physics.
I asked many people about the meaning of my name “Virupakshan” (a Sanskrit name). One convincing answer I got was: “Virubam” means “Different” or “Ugly” & “Akshan” means “eye”. “Virupakshan” means “Person with different eye”. In Hindu religion, Lord Shiva’s name is “Virupakshan” because he is the one who has the third eye in his forehead.
With one eye, people can see only 2D view of the world (like how we see photographs, TV, movie, etc). With two eyes only, a person can see the 3D world (i.e. depth of objects can be realized only with two eyes). This is the same reason why nature has given us two ears (to know where from the sound originated).
One eye -> 2D, Two eyes-> 3D; then Three eyes -> 4D! What is this 4D or Fourth Dimension? In Physics, “Time” is the fourth dimension.
I believe (or wish to believe – to be honest), that Hindu religion must have thought about this 4D few thousand years back and hence must have told about Lord Shiva as the one having three eyes.
Last but not the least: “It is not important what one’s name means, but it is important to make one’s name meaningful.”
